baby botox at 31 — regret or the best decision
did 20 units between my brows and forehead. cost $320. lasted about 4 months. my 11s were starting to look deep when i was NOT mad and it was driving me insane. do i feel vain about it? yes. would i do it again? also yes. just don't go to the cheapest place, find someone who undercorrects on purpose.
tox at 47 - small doses, not frozen
first time at 47. injector did 18 units spread across forehead + 11s. 5 days in now - movement there, lines softened. i did not want to look like a different person. the 'baby tox' conversation is the one that made me feel safe going ahead. small doses, follow up in 2 weeks for tiny touch ups if needed.
under-eye filler regret - dissolving on tuesday
did tear trough filler 4 months ago. it migrated. i have subtle bags ONLY in certain lighting now and it is all i can see. dissolving tuesday. i do NOT regret trying. i regret not waiting for a more specialized injector. this area is apparently hard. learning in public.
how to vet an injector without sounding high maintenance
went to 3 consults before booking. what i asked each: years injecting, number of cases of the exact product you're proposing, before/afters of faces similar to mine, what complications have you managed in the last year. the good injectors had answers ready. the bad one got defensive. my best clue that the 4th consult was the right call.
microneedling 3 sessions — my honest review
did 3 sessions, 4 weeks apart, at a medspa. $350/session. downtime was 2-3 days each (red, sandpapery). results at 3 months post last session: pores visibly smaller, a couple of shallow acne scars less noticeable, texture smoother. dramatic? no. worth $1050 to me? yes, because it stacked with good skincare. would not do it without sunscreen compliance after.

microneedling with rosacea - my derm finally said yes
rosacea has always kept me off microneedling because of flare risk. my derm finally gave the green light for 1 gentle session with strict pre/post: no actives 1 wk before, mineral spf only after, no retinol for 5 days after. mild redness day 1, calm by day 3. texture is visibly better 3 weeks later. gentle > aggressive for sensitive skin.
pros + cons review: CO2 fractional vs morpheus8
did a deep read because my dermatologist proposed either for mild texture + a scar. summary for anyone in the same boat: CO2: more downtime (5-7d visible), more dramatic single-session improvement, higher risk on darker skin, typically pricier per session. morpheus8: shorter downtime, multiple sessions required, safer across skin tones, more expensive in total if you do the full series. i went morpheus. 3 sessions so far, modest steady improvement. i would have been anxious about the CO2 downtime.
pre-summer laser hair removal - starting now or too late?
thinking about underarms + lower legs. summer is ~8 weeks out. is it worth starting now or should i wait til fall. the 'no sun between sessions' rule feels incompatible with summer. someone talk me through timing.
chemical peel for PIH - which strength did what for me
went through glycolic 30% (gentle, had to stack), mandelic 40% (best for my sensitive skin), TCA 15% spot treatment (big gun, used carefully). for hyperpigmentation i got the most mileage out of mandelic 40% every 4 weeks x 4 sessions + daily tranexamic topical between. mineral spf is the whole ballgame.
morpheus8 at 48 — realistic before/after
did one full face session. downtime a real 5 days of looking like a strawberry. results at 3 months: skin noticeably tighter along the jaw, not dramatic but my necklace sat different lol. pricey (~$2200 for my area). would i do another? maybe next year. it's not a facelift, manage expectations.

IPL for rosacea - managed expectations version
second session done. redness about 40% better. flushing triggers still trigger, but the baseline is lower. derm said think of it as maintenance, not cure. plan is 3-4 total then annual touch ups. the hardest part is strict spf for weeks after, which is already my life so fine.
guys ask me about my jowls - filler vs just losing weight
52, lost 50lbs over 2 years. jowls were partly weight + partly aging. consulted about filler. decided to try resistance training + more protein first. 9 months later, lower face looks tighter from muscle + staying consistent on weight. maybe filler later. wanted to try the free thing first.
guys getting tox treatments, speak up
50s dude. finally caved and got a little forehead tox. feel weirdly self conscious about mentioning it. most of my buddies have also done stuff and we don't talk about it. if you're a guy thinking about it — it's fine, everyone else is already doing it, just find a conservative injector.
laser hair removal - the math over 5 years
did full back + chest, 8 sessions over 18 months, $1800 total with a package deal. compare to: waxing monthly at $120 = $1440/yr, shaving = ingrown hell + time. laser is essentially done after 5 years of shaving/waxing in cost. for me it paid off by year 2. if you're committed to removing hair forever, laser wins on math alone.
hydrafacial is basically an expensive extraction + mask
got one before an event. my skin did look glowy for 3 days. worth the $200? honestly for an event yeah, for general skin care no. you can get 85% of the effect from a good cleanser, a gentle acid, and a hydrating mask at home for $40 and reuse forever.

chemical peel for post-acne marks — week 4
25% mandelic acid peel, in-office, one session so far. 3 days of flaking, a bit of tightness, nothing crazy. week 4 PIH spots are about 40% lighter. booking another one at the 6 week mark. doing nothing else new, keeping spf tight. mandelic is gentler than glycolic for sensitive skin, just fyi.
laser hair removal for a hairy dude - 2 years in
did chest + back, 8 sessions. maybe 85% reduction. touch up once a year. no more ingrown issues on my back. huge for confidence at the beach. $$ was real but cheaper than waxing forever. dudes sometimes feel weird about this but half the consult room was guys when i went.
can you do anything about melasma while breastfeeding
my derm said tranexamic acid topical is probably ok but laser + hydroquinone are out til done nursing. anyone who dealt with melasma postpartum — did you just wait? did laser post-weaning actually clear it? what order did you do things in?
post-nursing timeline - when can i do laser / peels / tox?
every source says something different. my derm's ballpark: topical retinoids + peels safe ~1 mo after weaning, tox they typically want ~3 mo clear, laser most settings fine if not pregnant/nursing. obviously individual. posting so the next nursing person has a starting conversation with their own provider.
EDS + injectables - what i ask injectors before booking
connective tissue disorder here. bruising is next level, healing is slower, mast cell stuff possible. what i ask any injector: experience with EDS patients, smaller needles / slower technique, what's your plan for excessive bruising or histamine response. two out of five injectors had a real answer. went with one of those two.
